The Li-ion Tamer Monitoring Sensor, Gen 2, is a crucial component of a gas detection system designed to provide early and reliable warnings of impending lithium-ion battery failures. It functions by detecting specific off-gases, namely battery electrolyte solvent vapours, produced during initial failure stages. This proactive detection allows potential issues to be addressed well before they escalate into smoke or fire, thereby preventing significant damage and ensuring safety.

These compact, low-power sensors are acutely sensitive, capable of parts-per-million level detection, and boast a fast response time of five seconds. Utilising proprietary algorithms, the system rapidly identifies single cell failures, often outperforming traditional temperature or voltage monitoring, without requiring direct electrical or mechanical contact with the cells. The sensor integrates into the broader Li-ion Tamer rack monitor system, transmitting an alarm signal to a central Controller upon detecting an off-gas event. It is compatible with all lithium-ion battery types and chemistries, and operates calibration-free.
