Description

The Li-ion Tamer Reference Sensor, Gen 3, supplied by Eurofyre, provides early warning of lithium-ion battery failures by detecting electrolyte solvent vapours released during off-gassing. This enables prompt intervention to prevent catastrophic thermal runaway. Calibration-free, it works with all Li-ion battery types and chemistries, offering a rapid 5-second response.

An integral component of the Li-ion Tamer GEN 3 system, the Reference Sensor (with blue endplates) is strategically placed near external contaminant entry points. Its primary function is to prevent false alarms by continuously collecting ambient signals. An inbuilt algorithm processes this data to confirm gas presence and trigger an event only when appropriate.

Crucially, if a Reference Sensor detects contaminant gas before a Monitoring Sensor, indicating an external source, it activates an internal Lockout State. This prevents false-positive alarms and does not signify a genuine battery incident or system error, requiring no user action.

The sensor targets lithium-ion battery electrolyte solvent vapours, with a minimum detection threshold under 1 ppm/sec, capable of identifying single cell failures.
