The OSID Reflective Smoke Beam Detector is a linear optical beam smoke detector, ideally suited for large open environments such as atriums and warehouses. Operating on the principle of light obscuration, it employs an infrared (IR) beam system. This device integrates both the transmitter and receiver into a single unit, projecting a light beam towards a high-efficiency reflector, which then bounces the beam back to the receiver. An alarm is triggered by a detected change in the strength of the returned signal.
A notable feature is the detector’s wide 12° field of view, which allows it to automatically track the reflector. This capability significantly reduces the risk of nuisance alarms and faults, even in instances of minor building movement. Furthermore, the detector incorporates optical filtering, high-speed image acquisition, and intelligent software algorithms to enhance stability and provide greater resistance to varying light conditions, including direct sunlight, and intruding objects.
Alignment of the detector is designed to be swift, precise, and user-friendly. LED arrows on the unit guide the user during positioning, and a laser tool can be utilised for fine-tuning. Once accurately aligned, the unit can be securely locked into place, and a paintable cover conceals the mechanism. The detector also automatically sets its sensitivity to an optimal level based on the measured size of the reflector within its field of view.
For prolonged reliability, the OSID detector features automatic drift compensation, which adjusts detection thresholds to counteract any long-term signal reduction caused by contamination on optical surfaces. An optional internal heating element is also available to prevent condensation on the optical components, ensuring consistent performance across an operating range of 5-100m and temperatures from -20°C to +55°C.
