The VESDA VLI Secondary Filter is a vital component for VESDA VLI aspirating smoke detectors, which are designed for challenging and contaminated environments. Its primary function is to remove remaining impurities from sampled air, following the initial filtration stage. This process is crucial for preventing nuisance alarms and extending the operational lifespan of the detector’s sensitive elements.

Consistent maintenance is key to ensuring the detector’s optimal performance. It is recommended that this secondary foam filter be replaced at least every four years, or immediately if a filter fault is detected. However, in locations with exceptionally high levels of airborne contamination, more frequent replacement may be necessary to maintain the system’s accuracy and reliability.

The replacement procedure for the secondary foam filter is straightforward. It involves setting the detector to standby, removing the front cover, unscrewing and then removing the old filter. Reinstallation simply reverses these steps, followed by executing the “Reset Secondary Filter Life” command in the Xtralis VSC software to update the system.
