Knowledge BaseDescription
The VESDA VLP Aspirating Smoke Detector, now discontinued and replaced by the VESDA-E VEP, was engineered as a “Very Early Warning Smoke Detector” capable of identifying fire at its earliest stages. It accurately measured smoke concentrations across a broad range, from 0.0005% to 20% obscuration per metre. Eurofyre continues to offer support for the VLP and its successor, including spare parts, servicing, and training.
The VLP system functioned by using a high-efficiency aspirator to draw air through a network of sampling pipes, each equipped with a sensor to monitor airflow. Air samples were filtered to protect internal optics before entering the detection chamber, where a stable Class 1 laser light source and precisely positioned sensors delivered optimal response to diverse smoke types. Status information was transmitted via VESDAnet, a robust, fault-tolerant communication protocol allowing for centralised system programming.
Further functionalities included AutoLearn software, which dynamically monitored the ambient environment to set appropriate alarm thresholds, thus ensuring early detection while minimising nuisance alarms. Referencing technology further enhanced reliability by compensating for external pollution, maintaining accurate smoke level detection within protected zones.
The detector featured four configurable alarm levels and seven programmable relays. It was fully approved by VdS for installation within the European Union, bearing the CE mark to confirm compliance with applicable directives such as CPR, EMC, and LVD, as well as EN54-20. Eurofyre, as an authorised distributor and technical wholesaler, provides comprehensive expertise and support for aspirating smoke detection systems.
