Description

The Crisis Green Type B Refuge Outstation forms a critical part of Emergency Voice Communication Systems (EVCS), designed to meet BS5839-9:2011 for use as a disabled refuge call point. These systems facilitate secure, bi-directional communication for firefighters in emergencies, particularly in high-rise buildings where traditional radio signals may fail. The standard mandates that fire telephone and disabled refuge systems, if both present, should form a single integrated EVCS.

This particular outstation is constructed from injection-moulded green polycarbonate and features hands-free operation. It incorporates an LED and Braille-enhanced call button, which flashes green to aid location. Users activate a call with a single press, and a second press cancels it, ensuring straightforward use in an emergency.

Type B outstations are designated for disabled refuge locations, as specified by Building Regulations Approved Document B and BS9999:2008. They are compatible with Crisis standalone and network EVCS and can be flush or surface mounted using standard ‘MK’ style double back-boxes. For accessibility, the unit should be installed with its centre line between 900mm and 1200mm from the finished floor level, in compliance with Building Regulations Document M. An adjacent sign provides instructions and identifies the point.

Designed and manufactured in the UK, the outstation adheres to a range of critical standards beyond BS5839-9:2011, including BS9999:2017 and EMC standards EN55035:2017+A11:2020 and EN55032:2015+A1:2020. It typically requires a single 2-core 1.5mm screened enhanced cable, with a maximum cable distance of 500 metres.
