The Eurofyre Crisis Type B Weatherproof Refuge Outstation is a vital component of Emergency Voice Communication Systems (EVCS), specifically designed to serve as a disabled refuge call point. Fully compliant with BS5839-9:2011, this outstation is integral to assisting firefighters and ensuring communication for disabled individuals during emergencies in high-rise buildings or large sites where standard radio communication may be unreliable. It can function as part of a fire telephone system, a disabled refuge system, or a combined system, fulfilling requirements set by Building Regulations Approved Document B and BS9999:2008.

Designed and manufactured in the UK, this Type B outstation is housed within a compact, IP65-rated weatherproof enclosure, making it suitable for outdoor or exposed locations. The unit features an LED and Braille-enhanced call button for accessibility, along with a hands-free communication unit, which is accessed by operating a lever lock. The enclosure is externally signed to clearly identify its function, as mandated by Building Regulations, and is compatible with both standalone and network Crisis EVCS systems.

For optimal accessibility, the outstation should be surface-mounted at a height between 900mm and 1200mm from the centre line to the finished floor level, aligning with Building Regulations Document M. Crucially, correct installation procedures, including the use of antioxidant primer on bare metal and properly tightened IP65 cable glands and screw seals, are essential to maintain the unit’s ingress protection rating and ensure its long-term reliability in challenging environments.
