The Li-ion Tamer Controller, Gen 2, served as an early warning system for lithium-ion battery failures, detecting off-gassing events that precede thermal runaway and potential fire. While this specific model has been discontinued and replaced by the Li-ion Tamer Controller, Gen 3, Eurofyre continues to offer comprehensive support, including information, spare parts, servicing, and training for the Gen 2.

The system functioned by installing monitoring sensors inside battery racks and external reference sensors to track ambient environmental conditions. The controller, installed in a separate location, processed signals from up to 12 monitoring sensors and 3 reference sensors. This setup provided fast, reliable detection of failure while mitigating nuisance alarms.

Communication protocols, including digital outputs and Modbus serial communication, reported activated sensors and pinpointed the specific rack experiencing an off-gas event. Key features of the Gen 2 included compatibility with all lithium-ion battery form factors and chemistries, reduction of false positive signals, and calibration-free operation.

The system offered a response time of 5 seconds to off-gassing compounds, detecting single cell failures. These controllers held various safety and compliance approvals, such as ETL listing to UL61010 and EN61326 certification for EU directives. Eurofyre, an authorised distributor, provides expert advice and support for these lithium-ion detection systems.
