Linear Heat Detection For Combine Harvesters

3 mins read

A combine harvester is a machine that has been designed to efficiently harvest a range of crops such as wheat, rye, oats, barley and corn. Combine harvesters are used in fields and yards across the globe and must be protected against fire.

What are the Fire Risks Associated with Combine Harvesters?

There are many fire risks associated with combine harvesters, including:

  • Overheating
As combine harvesters tend to be moving for a long period of time, they are at risk of overheating and causing a fire.
  • Oil Build-up
If combine harvesters are not kept clean, oil and grease can build up in areas such as the engine and increase the risk of fire.
  • Ignition Sources
Finally, if high temperatures from overheating or sparks from the vehicle’s battery occur and come into contact with ignition sources, the likelihood of a fire breaking out becomes high.

What is the Solution?

FyreLine linear heat detection is perfect for protecting combine harvesters as it provides a reliable, efficient and cost-effective solution for protecting vehicles like these from fire. FyreLine heat sensing cable is capable of detecting fire or excess heat at any point along its length and gives an advanced warning of fire.

FyreLine Linear Heat Detection

A FyreLine linear heat detection system is capable of detecting fire, or excess heat, at any point along the length of its heat sensing cable. This means that the location of fire can be accurately identified to ensure a quick response.

There are two different versions of FyreLine available, digital and analogue:

FyreLine Digital

FyreLine Digital linear heat detection provides a fixed temperature detection solution at a number of rated temperatures of; 68°C, 88°C, 105°C or 185°C and is, therefore, suited to a variety of applications. Once the cable reaches or exceeds its rated temperature, an alarm signal is sent to the fire alarm control panel where it will raise an alarm.

FyreLine Analogue

FyreLine Analogue linear heat detection, on the other hand, has the ability to detect heat anywhere along its length and is suitable for a variety of environments. Fyreline Analogue constantly looks out for changes in temperature and triggers an alarm once its specified temperature is reached or exceeded.

FyreLine Analogue gives users the opportunity to set a pre-alarm warning, allowing them to investigate a potential fire before the alarm is raised.

Coatings

The FyreLine range of heat sensing cables can be combined with number of coatings to protect even the most challenging environments, including in large machinery like combine harvesters. FyreLine linear heat detection coatings include:

  • Nylon Coated Sensing Cable
  • PVC Coated Sensing Cable
  • Polypropylene Coated Sensing Cable
  • High Temperature Coated Sensing Cable
  • Stainless Steel Braid Coated Sensing Cable
