Wi-Fyre – The Convenient Wireless Solution Volume #3 – Wireless Input Output Modules

Eurofyre’s Vision of Wireless Fire Detection

Until recently, wireless fire detection has only been available as a whole, system based fire detection solution. This meant that it could only be used for new systems or retrofit systems. Even then, wireless detection was not without its flaws, and not suitable for some applications.

Our innovative wireless fire detection solution provides system designers with the flexibility to use wireless detection technology wherever necessary – helping them to reduce costs and installation time, whether it is used as part of a new system or to upgrade or extend a new fire alarm system.

Wi-Fyre offers the best of both worlds – combining wired technology with wireless technology, exploiting the strengths of both types of technology.

Picture this…

A third party system (in this case air conditioning) has recently been installed on the roof of a commercial property. To ensure the air conditioning shuts off when a fire alarm activation occurs, the air conditioning needs to be integrated with the fire alarm system. However it is impossible to run the necessary additional cabling without causing disruption to wall, ceiling and external roof materials.

Enter Wi-Fyre

Wi-Fyre Roof Top

Wi-Fyre allows wireless fire detection devices to connect effortlessly to new or existing hard-wired fire alarm systems. This means that extra input/output units can be added to the system at any stage of the installation, without the need for additional cabling and with minimal disruption to the building.

Wi-Fyre is extremely versatile and offers six modes of user-selectable operation for integration with almost any existing fire alarm system. Wi-Fyre’s six modes of operation include:

  • Conventional
  • Standalone (residential)
  • Addressable (collective)
  • Reflective
  • ProFyre addressable
  • ProFyre 2-Wire addressable

Approvals

All Wi-Fyre Devices are fully certified to EN 54-25 – the European product standard for wireless fire alarms, which necessitates third party assessment to confirm that it meets very specific requirements.

Wi-Fyre also complies with ENTSI 300:200 – the standard requirements for the Radio Equipment Directive (RED), and BS 5839-1 – the code of practise for design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of fire alarm systems in non-domestic premises.

Wi-Fyre Wireless Transponder

Wi-Fyre LCD Transponder

At least one Wi-Fyre wireless transponder must be used to integrate Wi-Fyre wireless devices with a new, or existing, fire detection system. Transponders are typically connected directly to the fire alarm wiring via a compatible zone monitor or interface module and can each communicate with up to 30 mixed, field devices. Wi-Fyre transponders are zone/loop powered when used with a ProFyre fire alarm system, however, an external power supply is required if it is not a Profyre system.

Wi-Fyre Input/Output Module

Wi-Fyre Input Output Module

The Wi-Fyre input/output module is designed to switch remote equipment in the event of a fire, in this case – the air conditioning unit. Wi-Fyre input/output modules connect directly to the equipment to be controlled and wirelessly to the Wi-Fyre transponder. When an alarm is triggered a signal is sent to the input/output module to shut the air conditioning unit down.

Wi-Fyre input/output modules can also be used to wirelessly interconnect  two or more stand-alone fire alarm panels, or as a means to trigger an alarm or fault from ancillary input operations.

Wi-Fyre Wireless Survey

Wi-Fyre - Wireless Survey Head

When installing wireless devices to a fire alarm system a wireless survey must be be carried out to ensure that the signal between the Wi-Fyre transponder and the connected devices is strong enough for the system to work efficiently.

To conduct a survey, a Wi-Fyre wireless survey head is placed at the location that the device – in this case the input/output module – is to be installed and connected to the transponder. An eight-way colour coded rotary LED display will then provide an indication of the signal strength between the two devices.

This is just one scenario where Wi-Fyre Wireless Fire Detection can be used to save costs and reduce installation time and maintenance. SecuriSmoke ASD 2000 for Warehouses

Warehouses are essential facilities in supply chains, used to store goods before they are distributed. These large buildings support retail, logistics and manufacturing operations, often holding high volumes of stock in racking systems designed to maximise space. Many modern warehouses also function as fulfilment centres, where goods are received, sorted, picked, packed and dispatched quickly […]
